Government Representations

Over the years the SGCCI has made a deep impact on the economic scene in South Gujarat region. By making representations to persuade to government at local, state and central level to resolve the issue related to Customs, Excise, Income Tax, Sales Tax, Octroi, Law & Order, to interacting with senior diplomats, it has indeed come up a long way. Yet a lot need to been done because Commerce, Trade, Industry and Governance are dynamic and change is the only unchanging law. Therefore chamber takes utmost care in appropriately representing the causes of its members and people of the area before competent authorities for furthering the trade and business.

Timely representations and suggestions to the ministers and concerned government departments for protecting and enhancing the interests of the business community have become an important function of the Chamber.

Certificate of Origin

The Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry is authorized by Government of India, Ministry of Commerce, Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics vide letter No. 14(1) 74EAC dated 14th May 1974 to issue Certificate of Origin in prescribed Performa to exporters as per requirement of Article 11 of International Convention relating to customs.

Certificate of Origin is essential document for Exporters as a proof certifying that the goods are of Indian Origin. The office bearers of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry have been nominated to authorize to sign the Certificates of Origin as and when requested and such certificates are validly accepted by custom departments as well as by the Consulate General of over-seas countries. Every year the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry is issuing around 7000 Certificates of Origin to Exporters of this region.

Business Information Cell

Business Information Cell was established in 1999 for dissipation of information related to products & services offered by the industrialists of South Gujarat. Still in its infancy, this cell has really been helpful in serving the business community. In addition business data is being collected, updated and distributed to the user members.

Training & Education

The chamber is running various professional and training courses of short and medium duration and imparts training in the area of HRD, Exports, Income Tax, V.A.T. etc. This training prepares members in facing challenges arising out of impact of W.T.O. apart from local and international competition.

Publication

The Chamber keeps its members informed by publishing a monthly viz. "Samruddhi". It publishes important Government Notifications, Trade Notices and other topical matters. Every issue of "Samruddhi" is devoted to a core industrial / trade sector of the region. It has proved a valuable medium of communication between Chamber and its members.

Social Responsibilities

The chamber has also been on the forefront of discharging its social responsibilities. Be it the natural calamities like flood, earthquake or be it man made communal disturbance, the chamber contributed its lot in providing food and financial assistance to the affected people in all such situations.

The chamber successfully pleaded burning issues like power tariff with the State Government bring solace to the consumer of electricity in Surat. On several other issues of public interest the chamber has always stood by them and spearheaded the movement for its logical and fruitful solution.
